Sonia D Harris

Sonia D. Harris was born on December 22, 1970 in Jackson, MS to the late Mrs. Lizzie B. Harris and L.J. Harris. She was the baby girl of nine children. 

As a young girl coming up in Jackson, MS, she attended St. Mark Baptist Church. Years later she moved to Chicago, IL. There she joined Helping Hand Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. J.D. Kelly, then under the leadership of Rev. Tommy Woodridge. 

Sonia attended Nash School, where she graduated. She later attended Austin High School. Sonia’s passion was music. She loved R. Kelly, Lauryn Hill, Prince and MJ. She touched the hearts of all who knew her. Sonia had a special soul… but please don’t make her mad, LOL. 

Sonia departed this life on July 20, 2026 while at home. She is preceded in death by: Her mom, Lizzie B. Harris; father, L.J. Harris Sr.; sister, Linda Sue Harris; brother, John Harris; son, Devin Harris; grandmother, Bertha Jane Funchess; grandfather, L.A. Harris Sr.; aunts, Billie Jane McGinnis, Shirley Ruth Haley Buckley, Willie Ruth McIntosh and Johnnie Pearl Watkins; and uncles, Gary Funchess, Jackie Ray Funchess, L.A. Harris Jr. and Connie Mac Harris. 

Sonia leaves to cherish her memory: Her daughters, Gena Perry and Miracle Harris; son, Marquez Jefferson; her sisters, Rubystine Weatherlay, Clara Harris-Turnage, Sheba Wilks, Deanna Harris and Stephanie Stovall; brothers, L.J. Harris Jr., Julius Harris, Curtis Harris and Michael Harris; two aunts, Eva Duckworth and Diane Duckworth; uncles, RJ Barnes and Jimmy Charles Funchess; four grandchildren, Diamond Lee, Antonio Perry, Marquez Jefferson Jr. and Major Perry; twenty-two nieces and nephews, eighteen great nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
