Marquis "Shabazz" Mitchell

Apr 20, 1996 — Jul 10, 2026

Mr. Marquis “Shabazz” Mitchell was born on April 20, 1996, in Chicago, Illinois. Born to Marketta Sconyers and Maurice Mitchell. Although his given name was Marquis, he preferred to be called Shabazz.

Shabazz received his education at Francis Scott Key Elementary School and Austin Voice Academy. He had a deep love for reading and writing music. He also enjoyed watching movies with his mother, especially documentaries and motivational speakers. He loved homemade soul food and never turned down a good home-cooked meal. Above all, he cherished spending quality time with his family.

Shabazz was a bright, kind-hearted man whose beautiful smile and infectious laugh brought joy to everyone around him. No matter the situation, he always seemed to wear a smile on his face and had a way of making others laugh.

Gifted with his hands and a strong work ethic, Shabazz found a passion in construction. He was employed by Big Shoulders, where he proudly worked in the construction field.

If you ever had the opportunity to talk with Shabazz, you likely walked away encouraged. He always had a positive affirmation to share. One of his favorite sayings was, “It takes money to make money.”

Shabazz understood that he was not a perfect man. His desire to grow spiritually led him to embrace Islam and strengthen his relationship with Allah. His faith became an important part of his journey and brought him peace and purpose.

On July 10, 2026, Shabazz departed from this earthly life. Though his physical presence is gone, his love, wisdom, and memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish his memory: His loving mother, Marketta Sconyers; his father, Maurice Mitchell; his two sisters, Destiny and Dynasty; his four brothers, Pierre, Paris, Marquelle, and Martice; his beloved daughter, Kaysani, whom he loved dearly; his fiancée, Marveona; his two nephews, Jaquez, and his best buddy D’Ayrius; his two nieces, Christianna and Kendall; his special siblings, Cody and Tiffany; his special mother, Joyce; his special father, Eugene; 7 aunts, Pamela, Karla, Donna Michelle, Corolyn, Gential, Nakita and 1 special aunt Faye; 2 uncles, Jermaine ,Anthony; 1 uncle who preceded him in death, George; along with a host of extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory
