Lennon Charles Hayes was born on February 10, 1973, in Chicago, Illinois, to Ora Hayes and the late Willie Lloyd. He is preceded in death by his son, Quinchales Hayes, and his grandparents, Sam and Climitee Wells.
Affectionately known as “Pooh”, Lenny Pooh” and “Tone” by his family and friends, Lennon was educated in the Chicago Public School System. He spent his early years in Chicago, where he grew up surrounded by family and friends. Pooh loved spending time with his children and his mother. He also enjoyed family gatherings at his Aunt Pearl’s house and pulling up on Kedvale to relax and spend time with his friends.
Pooh also spent many summers in Hayti, Missouri, with his grandparents, including his grandfather, Sam Wells, as well as his sister, aunts, uncles, and cousins. During his time in Hayti, he learned about country living, fishing, gardening, and working on cars.
Throughout his life, Lennon worked at several companies, including Warp’s Flex-O-Glass and Preferred Meals. He also lived in Atlanta, Georgia, for a while, where he was employed at Tip Top Poultry.
Later, Pooh relocated to Mansfield, Ohio, and made it his home. During his life in Mansfield, he worked at Cheryl and Company. He loved hosting get-togethers at his home, where family and friends played cards, joked, and enjoyed one another’s company. Pooh also became known for putting on big fireworks shows that brought the whole neighborhood together to enjoy the celebration.
He was a devoted Chicago Bulls and Chicago Bears fan. Lennon’s love for his family was immense; whenever they called, he answered. His larger-than-life personality made it easy for him to travel, meet new people, and form lasting friendships. He was a generous man who often placed the needs of others before his own.
Lennon was a devoted father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. On July 21, 2026, Lennon “Pooh” Hayes peacefully transitioned at his home in Mansfield, Ohio.
He leaves to cherish his memory: His devoted mother, Ora Hayes; his children, Lenisha (Phillip) Pierce, Lennon Hayes Jr., Lenniyah Hayes, and Zyah Hayes; his grandchildren, Dominic Hayes, Jahari Pierce, Aleeah Pierce, Ja’Kobe Pierce, Quincharles Hayes Jr., and Samiyah Hayes; and his daughter-in-law, Shequita Hayes.
He is also survived by: His siblings, Joyce Wells and Toney Hayes; aunts, Flora Thomas, Bobbie Jones, Verna Mae Wells, Barbara (Dennis) Lowry, Phillis Sims, Sandra (Wayne) Milbrant, and Denise Wells; uncles, Alvin Wells, Travis Patterson, and Lavon (Jackie) Patterson; special cousin, James Alexander; best friends, Jelani Milner, Marcus Milner, Taredious Hollins, and Rodney Wilson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
